One of the primary elements of virtual learning is the ability to receive a high-quality education without having to physically go to a traditional brick-and-mortar school building each day. This feature allows students and families to develop a schedule for school that works with them and for them. 
At the center of our work at CVP is to personalize learning for our students and meet them where they are. With the help of Edmentum, our goal is to empower students to take ownership of their learning and provide flexible options to meet their goals. Students participate in a virtual classroom from the comfort of their own homes, or anywhere else they can access the internet, using a BCSC-issued device.  CVP students can develop a schedule that works best for them and their families, rather than having to adhere to a prearranged, inflexible schedule. This personalized schedule allows students to work at a pace that makes sense for their learning.

Our teachers work to be involved in each student's learning experience and look for ways to tailor instruction to fit individual student's needs. Students can access their teachers for one-on-one support or small-group virtual instruction.

We believe students thrive when they experience relationships with peers, staff, and families that generate honest, respectful, and trusting communication. Columbus Virtual Pathway is committed to working with students and families to ensure that they feel connected to their school community, even if they are not physically present in our building every day. Our Advisory program provides students with an opportunity to connect with each other and their teachers on a regular basis. Through Advisory, we will build a strong community that supports one another, celebrates our successes, and provides tools and strategies that can be used now and in the future.

Whether you are a student who has struggled in a traditional school setting and needs to catch up, a student looking for accelerated learning opportunities, a traveling athlete, or somewhere in between, Columbus Virtual Pathway can help you reach your goal with a high-quality virtual education. We meet students where they are and develop a plan to help them achieve their goals. The flexibility of an online program along with the opportunities that BCSC provides for Career & Technical Education, Advanced-placement, dual credit, and more allow students to get the best of virtual and in-person instruction. The COVID-19 pandemic has left students in a variety of different places in their learning journeys and as we look to regroup, reimagine, and return to learning, CVP is a pathway forward.

Students enrolled in Columbus Virtual Pathway will participate in high-quality online instruction and learning opportunities that guide them to mastery in core content areas.  Instruction is aligned with Indiana State standards and utilizes Edmentum along with additional BCSC adopted curriculum resources.  Students attending and completing the 7-12 Virtual Pathway will be enrolled in remote learning classes by the program director and will be served by a BCSC certified teacher. All Columbus Virtual Pathway students will be provided with BCSC resources and a BCSC device in order to access online instruction and will be able to participate in BCSC programs and extracurricular activities at the schools where they are enrolled.

In addition to participating in remote learning, Virtual Pathway students:

• Can participate in scheduled online meetings and lessons with the Columbus Virtual Pathway teachers

• Must fully engage in online learning activities, complete classroom assignments and assessments 

• Are eligible to participate in extracurricular activities that take place before or after school

• Have access to the i-Care before and/or after school program

• May transfer back to the traditional classroom at the student’s home school at the end of the semester

Students in Columbus Virtual Pathway utilize Edmentum's Courseware to earn course credit and meet Indiana's graduation requirements. Edmentum has been named Indiana's Top Virtual Course Provider for 6 years in a row by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).

Daily Attendance is CRITICAL to success!

Students should participate in instructional time between 2.5 and 6 hours per day for a total of 180 instructional days for the school year.

In order to be counted for a full day of attendance, students must meet the following criteria:

• Engage daily in the online coursework.*

• Have evidence of adequate progression in learning in all Edmentum courses.**
  
  

*CVP students follow the BCSC district calendar and are expected to log in each day school is in session. CVP students may make up for missed days by working on weekends (however, a parent should still follow the absence reporting procedure outlined below).

**Students should expect to spend at least 30 minutes per day in each of their assigned courses (total ~2.5 hrs/day; ~12 hrs/wk). If a student is performing on or above pacing guidelines in all modules, the student should be counted as present for the week even if a daily login has not occurred.

Students should strive to be ACTIVE learners!

Learning opportunities of instructional time include but are not limited to:

• interacting with the curriculum;

• progress made in the curriculum;

• assignment submissions;

• online Google Meet sessions attended;

• offline help sessions attended at CVP;

• responding within 24 hours to any emails or messages received from a facilitator;

• completion of internal assessments

• other offline resources;

Effective participation will be measured by continued positive performance in all courses.

If your student is having trouble with any content or staying on pace in any module, please contact your child’s teachers. 

When students meet these expectations, their attendance will be coded as present. If they do not meet these expectations, they will be coded as UNX (unexcused). 

If your child will NOT be working in CVP due to an extended illness or circumstance that will prevent two days of inactivity in one week, please call the school 812-314-3810.

In accordance with Indiana Code 31-30 through Indiana Code 31-40, after 10 days of unexcused absences, the school where your student is enrolled is required to initiate a report to the Indiana Department of Child Services and additionally may result in a referral to the ATTEND process.

This Course Catalog contains as much information as possible about the courses being offered for next year, the various graduation requirements, and any other pertinent information. It is intended as a planning tool that can assist students as they set goals and make informed plans for the future.
