Columbus Virtual Pathway (CVP) is an online pathway for students in grades 7 - 12. CVP students engage with BCSC teachers virtually to become expert learners who are purposeful and motivated, resourceful and knowledgeable, and strategic and goal-directed. BCSC teachers will interact virtually, guide engagement, manage assignments, and promote personal growth through a high-quality, remote learning experience that incorporates the BCSC core values. Whether you are a student who has struggled in a traditional school setting and needs to catch up, a student looking for accelerated learning opportunities, a traveling athlete, or somewhere in between, Columbus Virtual Pathway can help you reach your goal with a high-quality virtual education. We meet students where they are and develop a plan to help them achieve their goals. The flexibility of an online program along with the opportunities that BCSC provides for Career & Technical Education, Advanced-placement, dual credit, and more allows students to get the best of virtual and in-person instruction. The COVID-19 pandemic has left students in a variety of different places in their learning journeys and as we look to regroup, reimagine, and return to learning, CVP is a pathway forward.

Academic Information

Student Learning

Students enrolled in Columbus Virtual Pathway will participate in high-quality online instruction and learning opportunities that guide them to mastery in core content areas. Instruction is aligned with Indiana State standards and utilizes Edmentum along with additional BCSC-adopted curriculum resources. Students attending and completing the 6-12 Virtual Pathway will be enrolled in remote learning classes by the program director and will be served by a BCSC-certified teacher. All Columbus Virtual Pathway students will be provided with BCSC resources and a BCSC device in order to access online instruction and will be able to participate in BCSC programs and extracurricular activities at the schools where they are enrolled.

In addition to participating in remote learning, Virtual Pathway students:

Can participate in scheduled online meetings and lessons with the Columbus Virtual Pathway teachers
Must fully engage in online learning activities, complete classroom assignments and assessments
Are eligible to participate in extracurricular activities that take place before or after school
Have access to the i-Care before and/or after-school program
May transfer back to the traditional classroom at the student’s home school at the end of the semester

Instructional Services

IEP, 504 Plans, ILP, Family Services: All students enrolled in Columbus Virtual Pathway are still eligible for any services provided by BCSC. Students and families may work with the Director of Columbus Virtual Pathway to determine how services will be received.

Enrollment

Columbus Virtual Pathway, BCSC’s 7-12 online option is open to all BCSC students upon approval of the students home school. Students must be enrolled as BCSC students to attend Columbus Virtual Pathway (CVP). Students attending CVP will be registered in BCSC through their “home school.” A student’s home school will be used for state reporting purposes as well as extracurricular activities. Enrollment in CVP is for a minimum of one semester. Students and families can request to transfer schools at semester breaks pending administrator approval from both schools.

CVP serves students full-time (5-7 credits per semester) as well as students needing credit recovery (1-2 credits per semester).

Full-time CVP students take all of their core content classes virtually through CVP. They may also take 1 or 2 classes in-person at their home school.
Credit-recovery CVP students take all of their core classes in-person at their home school. They may take 1 or 2 classes virtually through CVP if they have credit-recovery/accrual needs that do not fit into their in-person schedule.

CVP also offers summer school for students in grades 9 - 12. Students participating in summer school earn high school credit during a 6-week summer session. They are allowed to take at most 2 classes during the summer.
